NYC Marathon

Holy cow, I’m running the NYC Marathon 04th of November! Me! The girl who hardly runs anywhere and don’t even like being out of breath is running the TCS New York City Marathon. That’s 26,2 miles (a little more than 42 kilometres)!

When my work told us that they wanted to give ten employees the opportunity to run the marathon on behalf of UNICEF, I thought long and hard before I applied. Of course I didn’t think I had a single shot at becoming one of the ten, but still, if you’re applying, you need to be serious about it in case you actually do get picked.

When I got the e-mail, telling me I had been chosen, I was actually sitting in my couch with a glass of wine, binge watching TV series (not very marathon-runner-like, I guess) with Andreas. We were in between episodes, so I checked my mobile and just started screaming. Try to imagine a type of scream that is 50% “OMG I just won the lottery!” and 50% “What the hell have I’m done, I’m going to die!!!”. That kind of sums up my screaming. I was all “AAAAH! AHHHH! AAAAAAAAAH! AAAAAAAAAAAH” so naturally Andreas got a bit concerned. He tried to calm me down and asked me what was wrong, and I was like “AAAAAAAH, I’M RUNNING THE MARATHOOOOON! AAAAAAAAH!!” and then after I calmed down a bit, I read the e-mail over again. Then one more time, before I looked up and told Andreas, super calm and dead serious; “I’m running the NYC Marathon. I’m doing it. Not sure how, but I AM doing it”.

I may not be a runner. But what I am is seriously stubborn. And competitive. That alone will take me a long way. I also have time. Not too much, but just enough. The Marathon is still months away, and all though time travels fast, I’m highly motivated on making the best of the days to come. I have a husband who used to run track and field, not to mention other several friends who can help me prepare. I’m terrified. But I’m also super stoked. Running a marathon is so out of my league I never even considered putting it on my bucket-list. But now that the opportunity is here, I’m totally adding it as a bullet point to my list. This is a once-in-a-lifetime-experience!

Now I only need to find me some descent running shoes :-O

I will keep you posted on my development here, on this blog. Wish me luck. I probably need it 😊
